Junior Church for younger children meets in the Parish Room every Sunday, unless there is a children's service, while the remaining congregation listen to the sermon. Parents take it in turns each week to run the sessions. Topics follow the biblical calendar and are suggestions by James; these can be changed if the person in charge that week wants to cover a different subject.
Some subjects are easier to explain than others to Junior Church members, whose ages range from about two to about eight. The children like listening to stories and answering questions relating to the topic being covered, but they particularly enjoy anything which involves cutting, sticking, drawing and colouring in. They also enjoy role play and when the topic was 'the Baptism of Jesus' they enjoyed baptizing various dolls, after listening to the story which was read to them by Sophie (8) and Hayley (7). Attendance can vary, often there are about 6 children but there can be more if there is a baptism and lots of guests.
Junior Church always warmly welcomes new people prepared to help. You do not need to be a parent. Please speak to James or Pat if you would like to help.
