St John of Jerusalem Festival Chorus

The St John of Jerusalem Festival Chorus began life in 1997, and was formed to support BT Voices for Hospices a world-wide network of performances of Handel's Messiah all taking place on the same day in October at the same local time. The event raised over £1,200 for the chorus's local hospice, St Joseph's in Mare Street, Hackney, London.

Since October 1997 the choir has grown substantially and has performed works as diverse as Vivaldi's Gloria,   Handel's Messiah   and Coronation Anthems, Bach's St Matthew Passion,   Mozart's Requiem,   Horowitz's Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo and Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb.

Another performance of Handel's Messiah was given on October 14th 2000, again as part of BT Voices for Hospices.

On Sunday 12th May 2002 at 7.30 p.m. there was a programme of music by George Frederick Handel In celebration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee. We sang the four Coronation Anthems Zadok the Priest Let thy Hand be Strengthened, The King shall Rejoice, My heart is Inditing and Anthem on the Peace together with an Organ Concerto.

On Sunday 7th December 2003 at 7.00 p.m. there was a programme of music by Vaughan Willams and JS Bach in aid of St Joseph's Hospice.

We are always interested in hearing from interested singers, or other musicians who would like to take part. Rehearsals for the choir are on Sunday evenings, at St John of Jerusalem Church, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. For more information, please contact Simon Funnell, the chorus's administrator.
